Ayden Heaven has arrived in Manchester to “complete [the] formal steps” of his move from Arsenal to Manchester United, Fabrizio Romano reveals.
The Italian transfer guru contends the deal is “set to be announced soon” with the final details being ironed out over the next few days.
Tweet: “Manchester United’s next signing Ayden Heaven, arrived in town and set to complete formal steps of his move to the club.”
“He’s joining Man United from Arsenal despite new contract proposal from the Gunners. Exclusive story revealed 10 days ago, set to be announced soon.”
Arsenal were keen to keep Heaven at the Emirates after tabling a lucrative new deal for the academy star to fend off interest from a host of clubs, including Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, the lure of Old Trafford proved irresistible as the 18-year-old decided on North West England over North London as the next stage of his senior career after a “full agreement” was struck.
Arteta has previously described the young defender, who often played as a midfielder in the Gunners’ academy, as a “remarkable” talent
“I don’t know how many players are able to do that on a stage like this [at his age]. He’s lost a duel against [Rasmus Hojlund], one of the strongest and fastest players in the world, it can happen,” the Arsenal manager revealed after a friendly against the Red Devils in pre-season.
“But the reaction afterwards, the composure, the quality, the body language that he had were all remarkable. I’m really happy with him.”
And, now, it is set to be Ruben Amorim who is “really happy” with skilful defender’s place in his squad.
Heaven is expected to join the first-team set-up at Old Trafford to provide “cover and competition” to Lisandro Martinez as the only other left-footed centre-back in the senior squad.
The 18-year-old defender will become the second Arsenal academy star to swap London for Manchester after Chido Obi – the Danish striking phenom – chose the same path last summer in a clear indication Old Trafford is re-emerging as the number one home of young talent in England.
