A seventh Premier League defeat and back-to-back losses at Old Trafford rounded off a not-so-festive weekend for Ruben Amorim and his men yesterday.
Manchester United fans will be looking to get their joy elsewhere this Christmas, as the club are now confirmed to be spending the day in the bottom half of the table for the first time in Premier League history.
After taking the lead early on in M16 on Sunday, Bournemouth were able to cruise to a comfortable win in the second half and seal another 3-0 victory at Old Trafford in two successive seasons.
The Reds took 23 shots in total across the clash, but only seven actually troubled Kepa Arrizabalaga by requiring saves. Of Bournemouth’s ten shots, five were on target, with three finding the back of the net. United also took 13 corners to the visitors’ two, yet, as has proven to be the case so frequently this term, were unable to make anything of their set-pieces.

Boos bellowed out upon Craig Pawson’s blow of the whistle to indicate full-time, although a small portion of match-goers immediately signalled their support for the boss by chanting ‘Amorim’s red and white army’, as per Samuel Luckhurst.
They hadn’t shied away from voicing their frustrations at the players before that point, and rightly so after what they’d been subject to. Luckhurst also shared during the clash that supporters sounded ‘audibly irked’ with Andre Onana for taking his time on the ball on numerous occasions – ironically, if he had done so against Viktoria Plzen earlier this month, they perhaps wouldn’t have been gifted a goal.
Next up for the 13th-placed Reds is a trip to the Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day before hosting Newcastle United on December 30 in an 8pm kick-off.
Their first outing of 2025 is away to the league leaders at Anfield, where fans will presumably be pinning their hopes on the likes of Amad Diallo to come in clutch with his heroics and salvage something from the daunting affair.
