Scorers: Pedri 30' ; De Paul 60', Sørloth 90+6'
It was all Barça from the opening whistle, and they will perhaps feel aggrieved to not take a sizable lead into the half-time break.
Nonetheless, their pressure paid off on the half-hour mark when Pedri capped off a lovely team goal to give the home side a much deserved lead.
It was much of the same after the break, as the Blaugrana created a flurry of chances, spurned only by heroic defending or the woodwork.
Yet in classic Atlético Madrid fashion, the visitors hung on until the hour-mark when Rodrigo De Paul capped off a counter-attack to reclaim parity and stun the subdued home crowd.
Robert Lewandowski had the chance to bag the winner in the final 15 minutes when Ferran Torres put the ball on a platter for the Polish striker from mere yards out, but somehow Lewandowski could not connect with his shot.
Barça were punished at the death when another rip-roaring counter-attack was finished off by Alexander Sørloth in the sixth minute of stoppage time to steal a famous win and claim top spot in the league for now.
The victory was Atleti's first away to Barcelona since 2006.
