Atletico Madrid have ruled out signing AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, according to Marca.
They wanted to capitalise on Milan’s failure to secure a spot in Europe to sign Hernandez, but did not want to meet their valuation.
Despite enduring a poor season, Hernandez remains one of the best left-backs in the sport.
He bagged four league goals and created eight big chances in arguably his worst season in recent memory.
The 27-year-old still has time to bounce back to form. However, Atletico have refused to up their offer as they look to bolster their defence.
The left-back position was a problem for Atletico last season, with Javi Galan and Reinildo underwhelming. Cesar Azpilicueta played the final game of the season there.
Manager Diego Simeone knows he needs reinforcements in that position, but they will have to turn their attention elsewhere as Milan have refused to play ball.
There are not many cost-effective left-backs of Hernandez’s ilk on the market, but if Atletico are ready to cough up the funds, they should be in the mix to sign Ajax ace Jorrel Hato.
The 19-year-old is a defensively solid full-back who has significantly improved the attacking aspect of his game and would be a valuable asset for Simeone.
However, they will face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea, who have been tracking the Dutch youth international.
