Liverpool missed the opportunity to move ten points clear of Premier League title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday evening as they drew 2-2 with Aston Villa.
The Reds were gifted the opening goal of the game courtesy of a sizeable error from winter signing Andres Garcia, whose wayward pass was punished ruthlessly by the Premier League leaders. Diogo Jota collected and rolled across the penalty area for Mohamed Salah to fire home.
But Liverpool's lead would last just nine minutes. Villa grabbed their equaliser through Youri Tielemans, who capitalised on Dominik Szoboszlai's weak headed clearance to rattle an effort beyond the helpless Alisson.
Villa would complete a dramatic turnaround in first half stoppage time as Ollie Watkins expertly converted Lucas Digne's cross, with Liverpool needing to climb a steep mountain after the restart to move further clear of second-placed Arsenal.
They took an important step up the slope just after the hour mark as Trent Alexander-Arnold found an equaliser, the right-back collecting Salah's pass and rifling a deflected effort beyond Emiliano Martinez.
Darwin Nunez missed an open goal as Liverpool searched for victory but the Reds had to settle for a solitary point at Villa Park, with the draw moving them eight points clear at the Premier League's summit.
