The context 📅

The Rouge et Blanc wanted to keep going the good form they’d showed before the break. After wins in Bologna (0-1) and then Strasbourg (3-1), AS Monaco wanted to make it three against Brest at home. But they had to be careful since the Bretons, only twelfth in Ligue 1, have also been unbeaten in the Champions League and were on 10 points like the Monegasques.

This last defeat was also a bit surprising. I know this team, they have a clear structure in playing a 4-3-3 most of the time. Pierre Lees-Melou is probably the leader of this group, Ludovic Ajorque is solid and fast. Everyone knows Romain Del Castillo. Kenny Lala is also a good crosser and sends in good balls to Ajorque.

The eleven 👥

For this big match of the 12th matchday of Ligue 1, Adi Hütter lined up his team in a 4-2-3-1 and saw returns from injury for Mohammed Salisu, Denis Zakaria and Aleksandr Golovin — all three started. Christian Mawissa and Soungoutou Magassa also played after their good performances in Strasbourg.

The scenario 🎞

Following on from their thunderous end to the match in Strasbourg where they scored three goals in the last quarter of an hour, the Rouge et Blanc started off with a bang. And on their first attacking move, Eliesse Ben Seghir set up Maghnes Akliouche, who scored with one touch (1-0, 5′), his first goal this season in the league!

The far post for Maghnes, the near post for for Golo’

The French U-21 international then came close to doubling the lead a few minutes later but his shot hit the post (9′). There was the same for Aleksandr Golovin, who doubled the lead thanks to the help of the post (2-0, 24′), a goal that also allowed him to get off the mark.

Brest tried to react but Ludovic Ajorque’s header was over the bar (30′), while Abdallah Sima’s attempt was pushed away by Vanderson (45′). The last opportunity of the half fell to Breel Embolo, whose shot from the penalty spot went wide (45+4′). AS Monaco therefore led 2-0 going into the locker room.

Brest pull one back and Monaco are stretched

That two-goal advantage for the Rouge et Blanc was kept only five minutes after the break since the right winger Abdallah Sima reduced the score with a header from a corner (2-1, 50′). Shortly thereafter, AS Monaco thought it had a penalty for Christian Mawissa, taken down by Bizot, but an offside for Breel Embolo was signaled beforehand (60′).

The Brestois continued to be dangerous and Mama Baldé’ who came on as a substitute, fired a shot over the bar (78′), while Fernandes’ shot was gathered by Radek (82nd). The match came alive and it was then the turn of Adi Hütter’s men to create a double opportunity but neither George Ilenikhena, who was stopped by Bizot, nor Soungoutou Magassa, who shot just wide, could find the net (84′).

A flash from Maghnes

The Monegasques had to be carefulm though, and the Polish goalkeeper was on guard against Jordan Amavi’s vicious strike (89′). But they will end all suspense with a model counter-attack. Played in by our number 21, Maghnes Akliouche would challenge the opposing goalkeeper and scored his double with a sublime chipped ball (3-1, 91′).

The new reduction in the score by Brest for Ajorque did not change anything and AS Monaco recorded a third consecutive victory in all competitions (3-2, 96′). It was a win that allowed them to consolidate second place. Their next match is on Wednesday with a visit for Benfica, for the fifth matchday of the Champions League (9 p.m.). DAGHE MUNEGU!!! 🇲🇨
