Ligue 1 clubs AS Monaco and OGC Nice are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy this summer.
According to RMC Sport, the Senegalese shot-stopper is looking for game time after finding it hard to come by at Stamford Bridge.
Mendy arrived at Chelsea from Rennes in 2020 for £22 million and immediately took over between the sticks for a side needing an assured presence.
Then-manager Frank Lampard wanted an improvement on world-record goalkeeper signing Kepa Arrizabalaga after they conceded 54 league goals in the 2019/20 season.
Mendy was crucial for Chelsea as they won the Champions League in his first season. Many people blamed their loss in the FA Cup final that season on Mendy’s absence.
He picked up UEFA’s Best Goalkeeper award for his superb UCL campaign.
The following season started well, and he helped Chelsea win the Super Cup and Club World Cup
Mendy then went to the 2021 African Cup of Nations and won the title. That was when his form started to go south, and he failed to recover from the slump.
When Graham Potter arrived this season, he reinstalled Arrizabalaga as the first choice, and Lampard kept it that way when he returned for a second stint.
Mendy wants to leave and is more sellable than Arrizabalaga – who arrived for a massive fee and on equally mammoth wages.
Monaco’s first-choice goalkeeper this season was Alexander Nubel, who was on loan from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
They need someone to take over now that his two-year loan deal has expired.
Nice also need a new goalkeeper, with Kasper Schmeichel reportedly angering his teammates this season.
Les Aiglons will be in the market for another number one, and they have Mendy on their radar.
