Manchester United could reportedly emerge as the favourites to land Wolves star Matheus Cunha this summer, especially with Arsenal distracted by other pursuits.

This could be an interesting summer for the two old rivals, as they currently share several common transfer targets. Perhaps the most famous is Viktor Gyokeres who is an old pupil of Ruben Amorim, but has also attracted the interest of the Gunners who are equally desperate to sign a classic out-and-out striker.

TalkSPORT also confirms Arsenal’s interest in the Sporting CP free-scoring bomber as well as Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

As the source explains, these two players could be the primary targets for the club’s incoming sporting director, Andrea Berta, who will be looking to reinforce Mikel Arteta’s squad with these two quality additions.

So while Cunha is also on Arsenal’s shortlist, the report believes he’s not exactly a priority, thus opening the door to Man Utd to secure the coup.

The Brazilian is a versatile attacker capable of filling almost any role in the final third. He has also attracted interest from Nottingham Forest.

However, TalkSPORT believes he would rather sign for a traditional Top-Six side, even if it means rejecting Champions League-bound Forest.

Cunha started his career at Coritiba, but went on to represent several clubs all across Europe. Wolves eventually secured his services on loan from Atletico Madrid in February 2023, before making his stay permanent in the following summer.

The 25-year-old initially had his highs and lows while settling in the Premier League, but has now emerged as one of the most devastating attackers in the league. Troy Deeney described him as a ‘class above’ the others.

This season, the Cunha has contributed with 15 goals and four assists in all competitions. His contract is valid until June 2029, but it reportedly contains a release clause worth £62.5 million.
