Arsenal’s failure to sign a prolific striker has undoubtedly impacted their ability to win major silverware.
While the Gunners could still defy the odds by winning the Champions League this season, their chances of achieving the feat are slim.
A 1-0 home defeat in the first leg of the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain has stacked the deck against Mikel Arteta’s side.
The result also highlighted a concerning side-effect of the team’s lack of a focal point – Martin Odegaard’s ongoing lack of form.
Odegaard spent much of Tuesday’s game at the Emirates Stadium on the periphery, and his lack of confidence was clear to see.
When the Norwegian international wasn’t handing possession back to PSG, he was repeatedly taking the safe option.
The lack of an attacking outlet in central areas appears to have had a negative impact on Odegaard and is an issue they must address this summer.
Signing a top-class striker is not only imperative to Arsenal’s hopes of winning silverware, but also essential in ensuring Odegaard returns to his best.
