Arsenal are considering signing Real Sociedad attacker Takefusa Kubo before the end of the January transfer window, according to Japanese journalist Marco Molla.
Molla, who is followed by Scottish Daily Mail journalist John McGarry and has been used as a source in The National claimed on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) this evening that the Japanese international is already aware of the interest from the Gunners and is open to move to the Premier League in the future.
Arsenal want to strengthen their attacking ranks for the second half of 2024-25 following a long-term injury to Bukayo Saka, and Kubo fits the bill.
The 23-year-old was once dubbed ‘top level’ and ‘world-class’ by former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, the North Londoners could do with such a quality forward within their ranks.
He has four goals and two assists in 23 appearances across the La Liga and Europa League so far this term, and his versatility makes him the ideal signing for Arsenal.
Kubo can play on both wings, through the middle and behind a striker, featuring in all these positions thus far in 2024-25.
The Sociedad star weighed in with seven goals and four assists in 30 league games last term, and he ended 2022-23 with nine league goals and seven assists.
He could prove to be an upgrade on some of the attacking options Arsenal currently have, but landing him during the season could prove tricky.
The Gunners have an excellent working relationship with the La Liga club and have been linked with an interest in their director of football Roberto Olabe as they look to replace the departed sporting director Edu at the end of the season.
However, those factors may not be enough to get Kubo before the end of the month and Arsenal may need to wait until the end of the campaign to have a realistic chance of landing their man.
