Liverpool vs Arsenal: Injuries and Key Decisions at Anfield

Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield today in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the Premier League weekend. Arne Slot’s side arrive as defending champions, while Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are wrestling with significant injury concerns that could shape the outcome of this high-profile clash.

Arsenal battling fitness issues

Arsenal have been hit hard ahead of their trip to Merseyside. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are all confirmed absentees. Manager Mikel Arteta is also anxiously monitoring the condition of Ben White, Christian Norgaard, Leandro Trossard and captain Martin Odegaard. Reports late on Saturday suggested Odegaard and Trossard may have travelled, but their involvement remains uncertain.

Saka’s hamstring injury has ruled him out for several weeks, though Arteta remains cautiously optimistic. “Bukayo is doing better, but he will be out for a few weeks unfortunately,” he admitted. “It is not as bad as the previous one [hamstring injury]. Obviously he is very unfortunate to pick it up, it is on the other side.”

Eze poised for Arsenal debut

One positive for Arsenal is the availability of Eberechi Eze, signed from Crystal Palace for £67.5 million. He has trained with his new team-mates throughout the week and is expected to feature on Merseyside.

“I am really impressed with him,” Arteta said. “I heard a lot of things about him. I spoke to a lot of people about him. Really bright. Very special energy, a special aura around him. Really willing, he’s already gathering a lot of information, the things that we want to see on that pitch. But especially make sure that he has the freedom and the capacity to express his quality, which is the reason why we brought him here.”

Predicted Arsenal line-up

With Saka missing, Noni Madueke is likely to start again, this time from the right flank. Viktor Gyokeres should lead the line, with Gabriel Martinelli completing the front three.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, Odegaard, Zubimendi, Rice, Madueke, Gyokeres, MartinelliDoubts: Norgaard, Odegaard, Trossard, WhiteInjured: Havertz, Jesus, Saka
