Arsenal and England U21 star Ethan Nwaneri has been classed as the most valuable player at this summer’s Under-21 European Championship.
That is according to Sportingpedia, who have claimed that Nwaneri alone is worth more than seven of the teams competing.
Unsurprisingly, England are reported to have the most expensive squad at the tournament, worth €412.2 million. That is more than the entirety of Group D’s combined value.
England are drawn in Group B alongside Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovenia, and that group stands out as the most expensive in the tournament, worth nearly €724 million.
England, France, Spain, and the Netherlands each make up over half of their respective group’s total value, meaning they enter the tournament as favourites before a ball has even been kicked.
Ethan Nwaneri is the most expensive player on display at the flagship event, with a market value of €55 million, which is more than the entire squads of seven participating nations.
The Three Lions also have two more of the top five valued players in the tournament in Newcastle’s Tino Livramento at 40m euros and Tottenham’s Archie Gray at 38m euros.
Completing the top five are Chelsea bound Portugal international Geovany Quenda at 45 million euros and Castello Lukeba of RB Leipzig and France at 40 million euros.
Fellow Frenchman Mathys Tel, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Tottenham is sixth at 35m euros followed by Premier League linked Dutchman Jorrel Hato at 35m euros. Elliot Anderson, of Nottingham Forest and England, is valued the eighth highest at 32m euros.
Stuttgart and Germany’s Nick Woltemade, Liverpool and England midfielder Harvey Elliott, Valencia and Spain’s Cristian Mosquera, Spain and Athletic Club’s Mikel Jauregizar, and fellow Spaniard Jesus Rodriguez of Real Betis are all valued at 30m euros.
Lee Carsley, the England manager, comes into this tournament having lost one of his best players in Liam Delap, who will play at the Club World Cup with new side Chelsea instead.
There is also uncertainty over whether Jobe Bellingham will play at the tournament. He has completed a move to his brother’s former club Borussia Dortmund who are also playing at the Club World Cup.
