The brass at Premier League giants Arsenal have kicked into gear a firm push to ward off any potential Real Madrid move for defensive standout William Saliba.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has on Sunday provided the latest on the situation.
It is of course common knowledge across Spain at this point that Real Madrid are on the lookout for reinforcements at centre-back moving forward.
Owing to the long-term fitness struggles of David Alaba, Los Blancos are expected to bring in a new stopper either this summer or next.
To date, a whole host of players have in turn been tipped to take their talents to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Considered the most intriguing in the eyes of many, though, is the aforementioned William Saliba.
Real Madrid have long been credited with a keen interest in the Arsenal stalwart, widely regarded as one of the standout defenders in world football.
As alluded to above, though, fully aware of as much, Mikel Arteta and co. have made their move.
As revealed by the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano, the next priority task for those in the boardroom at The Emirates has been underlined in red: tie Saliba down to a new long-term contract.
Arsenal are now actively working to ward off Real Madrid’s interest, ready to do whatever it takes to extend their defensive star’s terms beyond the summer of 2027.
