Mikel Merino found himself in a familiar position when Arsenal faced Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates Stadium last Tuesday. The Spaniard, who in recent times has been operating as a centre-forward, was moved back into midfield with Thomas Partey absent. However, Merino is expected to return up front at the Parc des Princes this evening.
Merino moved back into midfield due to Partey’s suspension. He picked up a yellow card in the second leg against Real Madrid in the previous round and missed the game. However, he will return to the starting line-up, pushing Merino back into the No.9. It was Leandro Trossard who inherited the role last week. However, he is set to drop to the bench.
There are no fresh injury concerns for Arsenal, who will look to overturn a one-goal deficit to book a place in the Champions League final.
