There is no let up on the injury front for Arsenal after they suffered another blow on Tuesday night.

The Gunners laboured to a 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk at the Emirates Stadium thanks to a Gabriel Martinelli shot that bounced in off the goalkeeper for an own goal.

Leandro Trossard missed a penalty in the second half, but the north London outfit saw out the rest of the game to go fourth in the Champions League table with seven points from their opening three matches.

The win was marred by an injury to Riccardo Calafiori, who was forced off the pitch after twisting his knee in the second half. He was replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly in the 72nd minute.

After the final whistle Mikel Arteta admitted the Italian’s injury was a “worry” ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool – a game he confirmed that Bukayo Saka will miss.

“Saka is not training yet so he won’t be available and Ricci felt something and could not stay on. Bit of a worry,” he told TNT Sports.

Arsenal are already without captain Martin Odegaard and the suspended William Saliba for Sunday’s match, while Jurrien Timber is also a doubt as he works his way back to full fitness.

Arteta admitted that his players grew tired as the game wore on. “Very pleased with the result, it’s always difficult in the Champions League,” he said.

“We should’ve scored more in first half and the second half I felt a bit of fatigue. Playing 60 minutes with 10 men a few days ago is difficult. We left the game a bit open but we dug in for three points.”
