Last month, the Premier League revealed that a number of Arsenal academy players were in contract talks with the club, with their deals officially set to expire at the end of June.

That list included Will Sweet, whose new professional contract was confirmed earlier this week, and the club have now also confirmed a new deal for Louie Copley.

The 18-year-old midfielder made 25 appearances for the Arsenal academy last season, largely playing for the u18s. He’ll now step up to the u21s.

“It’s a special day really,” Copley said. “Having all my family here as well to celebrate with me, I’ve been a boyhood Arsenal fan. I got put in an Arsenal top since I was born really, so it’s a really special day.

“My earliest memory was definitely going to the Emirates with my mum and my grandad. I think that game Theo Walcott scored a hat-trick. That just inspired me going there for the first time, walking out of the Emirates, but just seeing it. It was really inspirational.

“I joined the club as an under-13, progressed through Hale End, then did two years as a scholar and now I’m signing a professional contract.”

It’s likely that deals for Cam’ron Ismail and Daniel Oyetunde will also be confirmed soon, with both players joining the Arsenal u21s for pre-season despite their previous contracts ending in June.

That would only leave Dan Casey, who has been in contract talks with Arsenal but hasn’t returned to pre-season training yet. It’s unclear what his decision is at this stage.
