Arne Slot’s brilliant start as Liverpool manager continued in midweek as the Reds thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 at Anfield.
Luis Diaz hit a hat-trick as Liverpool beat the Bundesliga champions in emphatic fashion, inflicting just a third defeat on Leverkusen since the start of last season.
The win continued Slot’s seamless adaptation to English football, following his appointment as Jurgen Klopp’s successor in the summer. Slot has eased any anxiety over Klopp’s exit, losing just one of his 16 games across all competitions.
Liverpool lead the Premier League heading into the weekend and are top of the Champions League’s new-look league phase. The Merseysiders are the only team to have taken maximum points from their four games in the competition this season.
Last weekend’s come-from-behind win over Brighton saw Liverpool reclaim top spot in the Premier League, as the Reds capitalised on slip-ups from Manchester City and Arsenal.
The win over Leverkusen then saw Slot extend his record to 14 wins from 16 games in charge, with a shock setback to lose at home to Nottingham Forest and a draw at Arsenal the only blemishes on 46-year-old’s record with the Reds.
Slot’s latest success means he has now won more games in all competitions than any other Premier League manager at this stage of their tenure.
He’s moved past former Chelsea managers Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti to take spot. It’s a Chelsea dominated list, with five of the seven fastest-starting managers having been in charge of the Blues.
Slot now boasts an 87.5% win record across all competitions as Liverpool manager.
