New signing Chiesa also absent from training

Diogo Jota missed Liverpool training on Tuesday as the striker underwent a scan on his foot injury, but is set to be available for Liverpool’s midweek Champions League match against Bologna.

Jota took a heavy blow to his foot during the Reds’ 2-1 win over his former club Wolves on Saturday. According to Sky Sports, the scan results came back clear but he sat out training as a precaution.

Summer signing Federico Chiesa was also absent from the session at the AXA Training Centre and is set to miss the visit of Bologna on Wednesday night.

“Diogo missed two sessions after the game against Wolves,” Liverpool boss Arne Slot said at his pre-match press conference.

“He took a knock. Expecting him to be with us tomorrow, available.

“Federico trained yesterday, came in today and not expecting him to play. Pity for us but more for him as looking forward to Anfield and against an Italian team.

“Difficult because it happened yesterday but I’m not expecting him to be out for a long time. We will have to see for Saturday.”

Two players who were involved in the training session for Liverpool were Darwin Nunez and Andy Robertson.

Nunez missed the Wolves win through illness while Robertson was forced off late on after sustaining a heavy challenge.

Nunez is in contention to replace Jota in Liverpool’s attack, while Slot has Kostas Tsimikas as competition for Robertson at left-back.

Should Liverpool beat Bologna then Slot will become the first manager in the club’s history to win eight games from their first nine games.
