A new report suggests that Como has shown an interest in signing the midfielder on loan with an obligation to buy. Could Manchester City be on the verge of making a mistake if they sanction the sale of the Argentinian midfielder?

Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Como intends to send an official bid for Perrone to the world champions. Furthermore, Romano adds that negotiations between the two clubs are set to begin over a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause included in the deal. Lastly, Romano reports that City would require a buy-back and sell-on clause included in any potential sale of Perrone.

Would it be a mistake for Manchester City to sell Maximo Perrone?

As it stands, there is a lot to play out before Manchester City sanctions any future sale of Perrone. A deal between Como and the champions is yet to be agreed. But would it be a mistake for the champions to sell the young midfielder? That could prove to be the case in time.

Perrone had an impressive loan spell at Las Palmas last season. He showed at times that he has the potential to become a fine midfielder. There were also snippets of quality shown by Perrone during Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States. He looks to have the tools required to make it at the top level of football. Perrone just needs regular first-team football to further his development. He is unlikely to get that at Manchester City this season.

If Perrone does fulfil his obvious potential away from Manchester City it would be a mistake to sell the young midfielder. Though by inserting a buy-back clause in any potential sale City would have the option of bringing Perrone back to the club. But that would still be a costly operation for the champions. Perhaps a loan move for this season to Como could be a better option. But that would be dictated by how highly regarded Perrone is by the Manchester City hierarchy.

There is a lot to play out before the scenario of City selling Perrone becomes reality. It may be a mistake for the champions to sanction a future sale of the midfielder. That answer won’t become clear for sometime yet. But it is clear that Perrone could become a quality player as he develops. The hope is he can become a quality contributor at Manchester City and not elsewhere in time.
