Liverpool FC and Anthony Gordon have a complex relationship.

The English winger spent the early part of his career at Everton, playing as a direct rival to the Reds, but since he moved to Newcastle, numerous attempts have been made to return him to Merseyside.

Fans have been impressed his development to become a standout threat whenever he takes to the pitch and the friendship Gordon has with Curtis Jones has led to widespread speculation.

A whole host of extreme valuations have been put on the players' head in attempts to keep him where he is, but different transfer moves have opened up the possibility that he might actually move.

Elanga moves to Newcastle - what does it mean?

Aside from the Magpies spending a significant amount of money on the Swede - £55m - creating a new understanding within the market for players' valuations, Anthony Elanga's move is interesting.

He is capable of playing on either side in the forward areas and when you consider Newcastle have Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and William Osula available as wingers, alongside Elanga, it is plausible that Gordon might want to reassess what his position in the team is going forward.

After all, for £55m, the new recruit is going to want regular game time - he spent 2749 minutes minutes on the pitch last season at Nottingham Forest, those will need to be accounted for.

The one stumbling block appears to be Gordon's price, which has been set at £100m.
