The surprising story to emerge this week was the potential of Savinho leaving Manchester City. That particular story came out of nowhere and has progressed to a stage where it would be a surprise if Savinho remained at City when the transfer window closed. Now, Rico Lewis has been linked with a potential move to Nottingham Forest. Suddenly, the possibility that another talented young player could leave Manchester City seems very real.
Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Rico Lewis. As Gaughan further reports, Forest is close to completing the signing of James McAtee. Now they have shifted their attention to Rico Lewis. Gaughan reports that Manchester City values Rico Lewis at over £30 million. Furthermore, it is also reported that City could be open to selling Rico Lewis this summer.
Alex Crook has also reported for TalkSport that Nottingham Forest are willing to double Rico Lewis’ wages in a bid to sign the England international. Furthermore, Crook reports that Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Manchester City over a potential deal for Lewis. Lastly, Crook adds that Rico Lewis is considering Nottingham Forest’s proposal.
It isn’t surprising to see a club like Nottingham Forest interested in such a talented young player like Rico Lewis. The England international would be a quality addition to their squad. Lewis has proven to be a good player on his day and a reliable member of Pep Guardiola’s squad. The potential is there for Lewis to develop into a quality player. But Pep Guardiola’s squad is too big and players will leave the club before the transfer window closes. That much is obvious.
It would be a surprise to see Manchester City sell Rico Lewis. Especially considering that he figures to play a prominent role at right-back this season. The right-back position looks to be a position without a clear-cut number one option in the City squad and Lewis could make that role his own. However, Lewis does seem destined to one day become a midfielder. But his pathway into Manchester City’s midfield does seem blocked currently.
Perhaps the opportunity to play in Nottingham Forest’s midfield could appeal to Rico Lewis. Or perhaps Nottingham Forest’s offer to double Lewis’ wages could turn his head. But what is certain is that if Rico Lewis does want a move to Nottingham Forest, Manchester City won’t stand in his way. In a week full of surprises another one has emerged. Whether or not City sell Rico Lewis is another story to track before the transfer window closes.
