Ange Postecoglou is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will succeed this season, despite falling to a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby.

Arsenal secured a third-successive win away at rivals Tottenham on Sunday as the first north London derby of the campaign was settled by a stunning header from Gabriel. Spurs were unable to take advantage of the Gunners' weakened midfield, allowing the visitors to take three points from their trip.

Postecoglou was asked to share his feelings after the defeat, refusing to hold back when asked if his team can 'win' this season.

"Am I going to answer the question or are you going to keep asking it?," he told Sky Sports. "No, absolutely. I'll correct myself. I don't usually win things, I always win things in my second year.

"Nothing has changed. Well I just said it now. I don't say things unless I believe them."

The Spurs boss was also asked to give his assessment on the game, confirming that he does care about set pieces.

"For some reason people think I don't care about set pieces and it's a narrative that you can keep going on for ages and ages. I understand that. Like I said, we work on them all the time like we do for every other team.

"You know that they're a threat, as I said, for the most part, we handled them really well today, but we switched off for one and we paid a price and you learn from that and you move on.

"That's what happens. It was always going to be a tight game, fine margins. And it proved to be a key moment. I've just got to keep giving the feedback to the guys, trying to guide them in the right way to make them see that for all their dominance in the game, you need to really be clear-headed in those kind of moments and, that's my role to try to guide them in the right way."

Spurs return to action on Wednesday when they face Championship side Coventry in the Carabao Cup.
