Carlo Ancelotti was left frustrated with the referee’s decision to award Manchester City a penalty during Real Madrid’s recent clash, according to a report from SPORT.
The moment of controversy came when Dani Ceballos challenged Phil Foden inside the box, leading to a crucial penalty decision that did not sit well with the Real Madrid camp.
The incident took place in the 78th minute when Foden, known for his quick footwork, advanced towards the edge of the penalty area.
As he attempted to move past Ceballos, the Spanish midfielder made contact, bringing him down. Without hesitation, the referee, Clement Turpin, pointed to the spot, much to the disbelief of Ancelotti and his players.
Ancelotti immediately expressed his frustration, stepping out of his technical area and gesturing towards the official in disbelief. His reaction was mirrored by the Real Madrid squad, who surrounded the referee in protest.

The team argued that there was a possibility Foden had initiated contact or that the foul had occurred outside the penalty area. However, Turpin remained firm in his decision.
After a brief check with the VAR, the referee confirmed the penalty. Replays showed Ceballos’ knee making contact with Foden just as the Englishman stepped on the line, making it a borderline call.
Despite the protests, the decision stood, and Erling Haaland stepped up to take the penalty.
The Norwegian forward, who had never scored against Real Madrid before, calmly sent Thibaut Courtois the wrong way and slotted home his second goal of the night.
Despite the setback, Real Madrid did not let the decision affect their determination. In stoppage time, Jude Bellingham emerged as the hero, finding the back of the net to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory for his team.
The dramatic finish ensured that Real Madrid went home with an advantage as they prepare for the second leg of the round.
