Arsenal might be facing Manchester United at the perfect moment if Red Devils boss Rúben Amorim’s latest comments are anything to go by.
In just a few days, the Gunners will travel to Old Trafford for their Premier League opener. It is arguably Arsenal’s toughest start to a season in years, but Mikel Arteta and his squad will be determined to begin the campaign with a statement win.
As they prepare for that challenge, admissions from United’s head coach could be exactly what Gooners want to hear. INEOS have backed Amorim with two of last season’s top-performing Premier League forwards, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Despite their quality, Amorim has suggested that United are not yet at full strength. Speaking after their recent friendly against Fiorentina, he said, as cited by manutd.com:
“I think they [Cunha and Mbeumo] are maybe 50/60 per cent of what they can do. I think, like any other team, we are going to improve during the season; they are going to be so much better.”
It is not just Cunha and Mbeumo who may be short of peak form. United could also be without a fully integrated Benjamin Sesko, who will have had limited time to gel with his new teammates ahead of a possible debut.
“In some moments I felt that we, because of the one-v-one in all the pitch, we struggle without a reference as a striker. We have a new player [Benjamin Sesko], so we’ll see,” Amorim added.

Too bad for United because Arsenal look more than ready. The friendly win over Athletic Bilbao was full of positives. Viktor Gyokeres looked every bit the player who starred at Sporting CP, while Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard formed a formidable midfield trio, with the summer recruit making everyone around him look sharper.
Noni Madueke also impressed, and it would not be surprising if Arteta handed him a start on the left.
Arsenal appear to be facing United at the right time, so they should head into this fixture full of confidence.
How are you feeling on the build-up to the opener Gooners?
