It says something when INEOS are having to scour the market for replacements for players signed by Erik ten Hag in the last two years.

Yet, that looks to be the case for the likes of Antony, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, all of whom have drastically failed in their attempts to impress since signing for Manchester United.

This week’s events have seen Onana come under the microscope – and for good reason. His shambolic display in Wednesday’s win over Ipswich Town left fans dumbfounded as they watched the 20-time champions concede inside five minutes due to a mishap between the goalkeeper and Patrick Dorgu.

United were able to claw their way back into the game before eventually sealing all three points, but not without various hiccups along the way. The Tractor Boys added a second on the brink of half time; Jaden Philogene fired a low cross into the area, which Onana clearly failed to anticipate the trajectory of, as it bobbled its way through the box and into the back of the net while the Reds’ defence watched on.

Ruben Amorim is paying the price for Ten Hag’s transfer antics

The Cameroonian’s showing in the midweek contest has added to a catalogue of calamitous mistakes committed by him in his one-and-a-half seasons at the club, and with Altay Bayindir currently unavailable due to injury, Ruben Amorim has little to no choice but to stick with Ten Hag’s chosen shot-stopper – for now, at least.

GiveMeSport claims the head coach is growing ‘increasingly frustrated’ with Onana since taking the reins last November, so much so that goalkeeping targets are now being shortlisted ahead of the summer window. Burnley’s James Trafford, who’s on a formidable run of 12 consecutive clean sheets in the Championship, and Porto’s Diogo Costa are among the candidates in consideration by the scouts.
