Manchester United succumbed to a 3-1 home defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday.

Yankuba Minteh put the Seagulls ahead, but Bruno Fernandes restored parity from the penalty spot.

Kaoru Mitoma, who was the provider for the first goal, put Brighton ahead on the hour mark.

Georginoo Rutter took advantage of a catastrophic blunder from Andre Onana to end United’s hope of staging another comeback.

Speaking after the encounter, manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged that there are no quick fixes to turning the team’s fortunes around.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “It’s going to be like that until the end [of the season] because it’s really hard to work on the pitch.

“We will have to find a way to win matches. The only way is to give some confidence to the players is to win games.

“The only thing I know how to do it is help seeing the game how I see it. We need to be better, and that is really clear.

“It doesn’t matter if I have a lot of time to know our players, or not, we need to change that.”

The result was a big setback for Amorim as he picked nearly his strongest team in recent games.

Not many key players are injured, allowing the Portuguese to have control over his selection. However, the squad is just not good enough to compete consistently.

Amorim had to send Antony when United were searching for goals.

The Brazil international has not started in the league this season and is set to leave the club in the coming days.

Casemiro, United’s highest-earning player, has featured merely four times in the last 13 games. Christian Eriksen still possesses creativity but lacks the engine to thrive.

Amorim is in desperate need of help, and United must support him in the transfer market.
