After Italy’s 1-0 win against Belgium, Massimo Ambrosini has claimed that Sandro Tonali has evolved as a player since leaving AC Milan, given he scored the decisive goal.
Despite having a season away from football, Tonali has been impressive since his return, both for his country and new club Newcastle United. In fact, it does not look like he has spent time away from football, with him adding new traits to his game.
During an interview with Radio Serie A, Ambrosini spoke of the development that has been seen with Tonali recently, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.
“From the point of view of physical presence, of impact, he has put in something more than he did at AC Milan. I’d like to see him even more involved in the game, in my opinion he has a chance to make more of an impact from the point of view of building, of touching the ball. But we’re talking about improvements on an already strong base.
“It was not so obvious after a year’s standstill, he is bringing out everything he had inside.”
Instead of his words being critical of the player that played for the Rossoneri, they were meant as a compliment to the impressive work of the midfielder, and it is a testament of his mindset. Given there have been suggestions that the midfielder could return home one day, seeing the midfielder improve further will only be appreciated by a fanbase that sees the midfielder as one who got away.
