Almeria youngster Marc Pubill recently sat down with Manu Amor for an interview, where he talked about his rapid rise to prominence as well as his future at the club, among other things.
Pubill also talked about Barcelona’s interest in the summer, even revealing that the Catalan club were close to acquiring his services.
“Yes, it was close. We knew from the start that it was going to be complicated due to the issue of Barça’s fair play and in the end, it didn’t happen, but it was close,” he said when asked about Barcelona’s interest.
Barça were indeed interested in the services of Pubill in the summer. The 21-year-old emerged as an ideal alternative for Joao Cancelo, who was not going to continue in Catalonia.
When asked whether Pubill is excited now that Barcelona are keeping tabs on his progress at Almeria, the player responded, “Yes, it’s always exciting.”

Pubill also described how he felt after a hectic summer that saw him win the Olympic Gold medal with Spain and being closely linked with a move to Atalanta and Barcelona before eventually returning to second division with Almeria.
“The first few days I had a bit of a hard time finding myself. After the Olympics, after winning gold, after being on the verge of signing for Atalanta in the Champions League, after Barça.
“It wasn’t easy because of the Champions League and ending up in the Second Division. Little by little I’ve been working on it. Now I’m focused and eager to bring Almería back to where it deserves. I’m very happy here,” he said.
Pubill is still plying his trade with Almeria in the second division. However, with the youngster continuing his brilliant run of form, one would expect him to make a jump to a bigger club in the near future.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Barcelona continue to track the player’s progress during the remainder of the campaign before making a move in the summer of 2025.
