Ally McCoist has admitted he’s a “little bit disappointed” in Nicolas Jackson and the fact his finishing hasn’t progressed as much as he’d wanted to see.

Jackson impressed in his debut campaign last season, scoring 14 Premier League games after joining from Villarreal for £32m.

The Senegal international started this season really well, but dropped off around Christmas before missing two months with a hamstring injury.

McCoist disappointed in Jackson

Jackson has scored ten league goals this season and will miss the last two games of the season after being sent off against Newcastle last weekend.

The Blues have paid the price for not signing an alternative to Jackson both last summer and in January, and will have to play Tyrique George or Pedro Neto down the middle against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

Supporters would have expected more following Jackson’s impressive start to the campaign, but he’s regressed  this season and is still missing a lot of chances.

Jackson is reportedly attracting interest from a number of Spanish clubs, and McCoist has admitted he’s been disappointed with the Senegalese.

“I looked at Jackson and [Rasmus] Hojlund about a season ago and I’m thinking to myself they’ve both got potential, they’re heading in the right direction,” he told talkSPORT.

“However, I’m a little bit disappointed in the two of them, haven’t progressed in terms of finishing as much as I would have hoped and wanted to see.”

Chelsea target Delap and Sesko

Chelsea have been most strongly linked with Liam Delap who’s available for £30m following Ipswich’s relegation, but they are believed to be behind Manchester United in the race.

Benjamin Sesko is another player the Blues hold interest in, and the RB Leipzig man has a release clause of €80m in his current deal.

Hugo Ekitike is another possibility, but what Chelsea need more than anything is a top striker who knows how to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
