Perhaps no player divides opinion amongst Manchester City fans more than Jack Grealish. On the one hand, the role Grealish played in Manchester City’s treble success during the 22/23 season sees him hold a special place in Manchester City fan’s hearts. But on the other hand, Jack Grealish has never hit the same heights since that season to the frustration of many.
Injuries and other issues have affected the play of the England international. We have seen that play out this season. But when you look at the fact that Jack Grealish has barely featured for Pep Guardiola’s side during their most recent matches you get the sense that he isn’t a part of Manchester City’s future. There’s no other conclusion to draw based on the fact the England international just doesn’t get on the pitch despite there appearing to be times that Grealish’s attributes have been needed on the pitch during Manchester City’s recent games.
In Manchester City’s past four Premier League matches Jack Grealish has played a total of one minute. That came during Manchester City’s 1-nil win over Tottenham at the end of February. His last start came during Manchester City’s 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round tie win over Plymouth Argyle. That fact does appear to be telling. But when you consider that Jack Grealish didn’t get on the pitch when City needed a game-changer against Nottingham Forest and Brighton, you do begin to get the impression that Pep Guardiola either doesn’t trust the England international or the die is cast in regards to Grealish’s future at the club.
Whether it’s fitness issues, a lack of trust or other players have passed Grealish by in the pecking order at Manchester City it does seem that time is almost up for the England international at the club. It’s reached a point where there is almost no other conclusion to draw at this stage. The inescapable fact is that seeing a £100 million player being reduced to a cup-tie player or an unused substitute doesn’t seem to be befitting of the standing Grealish has in the game. But that’s where we have now landed. That’s the reality of the situation.
Perhaps it is best for Jack Grealish to leave Manchester City in the summer. A fresh start may kickstart his career. It will also allow City to move on from the England international. Grealish has been a key player at times for Pep Guardiola’s side. But those days appear to be over. Based on his lack of minutes recently it seems that his time at the Etihad may be coming to an end. There will be a host of players that leave City in the summer and it appears right now that Jack Grealish will be one.
