The Poland international has completed a switch to West Midlands rivals West Brom for a reported fee in the excess of £1m, penning a three-year contract at The Hawthorns.

The ex-Arsenal man was an important cog in the backline in his second spell at St Andrew’s, featuring regularly over two second-tier seasons before their relegation down to League One.

Despite being touted to make an exit, Bielik maintained his loyalty and stuck with the club when they needed him most, determined to help the club get back into the Championship as quickly as possible.

The 27-year-old went on to feature 32 times last campaign as Blues emphatically smashed the League One points record to lift the third-tier title.

But with Birmingham now having quality defensive additions such as Eiran Cashin, Christoph Klarer and Phil Neumann on the books, Bielik was pushed down the pecking order, and has had no choice but to pursue a move that will guarantee him regular minutes at this level.

After his move to the Baggies was confirmed, Bielik wrote a special message to Blues supporters, summing up his emotions after a three-season stay.

As posted from Birmingham City’s X account, Krystian Bielik has put out an emotional message to Blues supporters about his time at the club, following his exit to West Brom.

Bielik said: “Dear Bluesnoses.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially to a club that has meant so much to me.

“I want to thank everybody at Birmingham City – my teammates, the staff, and most of all, the incredible fans – for your amazing support throughout my two spells here.

“Wearing the Royal Blue shirt and playing at St Andrew’s was an honour I’ll carry with me forever.

“We shared some unforgettable moments, enjoyed a lot of ups and suffered some downs, but to have captained such a proud and historic football club is one of the proudest achievements of my career.

“I played 125 times for Blues, and I always gave everything for the team, I hope that was reflected in my performances.

“I leave with incredible memories and lasting friendships. I wish the club nothing but success in the future.

“So, for one final time,

“Keep Right On.”

Krystian Bielik departure made sense for all parties

Despite Krystian Bielik’s departure from Birmingham City undoubtedly leaving supporters feeling disappointed and sad, it was a move that suited all parties.

Bielik was too good of a player to sit on the bench at St Andrew’s throughout the campaign and needed regular Championship football to showcase the qualities he still has in the prime of his career.

He will always be fondly remembered for his loyalty to the cause after relegation to League One, as well as his leadership and bravery at the heart of the backline, captaining the side.

The Baggies have definitely profited from his arrival, but staying in the West Midlands was a priority for Bielik, and it only felt right that Birmingham honoured his wish, even if it meant selling to one of their main rivals.

Bielik wasn’t quite at the level where Blues want to get to under the Tom Wagnar project, and some similarly tough decisions will have to be made in the near future to benefit the football club.
