Newcastle United attacker Alexander Isak is the subject of transfer interest from the Saudi Pro League (SPL).
Al-Hilal have been linked with Isak. Intriguingly, they are under the same ownership as the Magpies.
Isak attracted interest from Liverpool this summer, but they have switched theor attention to Eintracht Frankfurt ace Hugo Ekitike.
Al-Hilal remain prominently in the race to sign Isak, and his agent delivered a cryptic message about his client’s situation.
“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” Gonzalo Gaitan told Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed that due to the speculation surrounding Isak, he left him out of their recent friendly game at Celtic..
However, the statement from his agent is ominous. Isak could be angling for a move away from the Tyneside outfit, despite local media outlets downplaying the situation.
Newcastle are determined to keep the player, stating the club will not agree to his departure for less than £150 million.
That figure will not faze the SPL giants. They spent €90m to sign Neymar, and he barely played before they let him return to Brazil for free.
Since 2023, they have signed Malcom, Ruben Neves, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Renan Lodi from European leagues.
They also signed Kalidou Koulibaly, Yassine Bono, Marcos Leonardo and Joao Cancelo.
Al-Hilal may have the financial means to pull off the deal, but the optics of the player leaving the Magpies for Saudi Arabia would not look good.
