Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has quashed suggestions that Napoli have revived their interest in Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho is increasingly looking likely to be on his way out of United after falling out with club boss Ruben Amorim.

Angered by Amorim’s decision to start him on the bench for last season’s Europa League final, Garnacho cast doubts over his future while slamming the Portuguese coach. Garnacho’s brother also took to social media and accused Amorim of throwing the player under the bus.

It’s understood that Amorim subsequently told Garnacho to look for a new club. Shortage in the Argentine has not been lacking, as he continues to be linked with the likes of Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa, Al-Nassr and Napoli.

Napoli’s revived interest in Garnacho

Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli had abandoned their pursuit of Garnacho due to United’s high asking price.

However, it recently emerged that the Serie A champions had re-entered the fray for him, in the hopes of striking a cut-price deal with United.

United are believed to value Garnacho at £60m but Napoli want to secure his signature for £45m. The report mentioned that the Red Devils are desperate to offload the 22-year-old.

Garnacho is one of five players who have been given extended time off to aid their efforts to land new clubs, as they’re no longer deemed to be part of Amorim’s plans.

Napoli president’s statement about Garnacho

Earlier today, the media was awash with remarks from Napoli president Aurelio Di Laurentiis, who said that Garnacho will be “twice the player” once he parts ways with United and joins their ranks at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium

Di Laurentiis is alleged to have praised Garnacho’s “pace, flair and potential”, as he appeared to accuse United of holding him back.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are not exploring a deal for Garnacho and Di Laurentiis did not say anything pertaining to the United winger.

Romano sets the record straight

Romano wrote on X, “Napoli president De Laurentiis has not released any statement or interview about Alejandro Garnacho.”

“Napoli are also not working on Garnacho deal at this stage.”

United will be keen to see interested clubs step up with firm offers for Garnacho, or they risk being left with a player the manager has clearly decided he can no longer depend on.
