Ajax welcome Union St Gilloise to Amsterdam this evening for the second leg of their Europa League knockout clash. The Eredivisie side have a 2-0 lead and look to be in a commanding position. What is more, the side are in great form domestically as well as Francesco Farioli has the side competing for the title. However, while they may look odds on to go through, they can ill afford to count Union out just yet.
The Brussels side have made a habit in recent years of defying the odds. They have caused upsets in Europe in past seasons and usually perform well when their backs are against the wall. What is more, the first leg may have been played in Belgium, but it was unfamiliar territory for both sides. Union rarely play at the national stadium and the state of the pitch made it a real struggle for both sides.
For the second leg, neither side should have too much trouble playing football on the ground. Union will have to be at their best to get back into the tie, but Ajax must make sure they don’t presume that the game is done. The side are on a five game unbeaten run and hammered Heracles 4-0 at the weekend. Union, on the other hand, lost 1-0 to struggling Mechelen.
