Ait-Nouri: I will try and follow in Mahrez’s footsteps | OneFootball

New signing Rayan Ait-Nouri says he will do all he can to follow in the footsteps of one of City’s modern-day favourites, Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian winger enjoyed five wonderful seasons with the Blues, playing 236 times and scoring 78 goals at an average of almost exactly one goal in every three appearances.

Mahrez won 11 major titles with City and is an Algeria team-mate of Ait-Nouri - and our new signing from Wolves discussed his move to the Etihad with his international skipper.

“Yeah, I spoke with Riyad - I am with him in the national team, and it was the same as Matheus [Nunes, a former team-mate at Wolves],” said Ait-Nouri.

“Riyad told me about the city, and he told me to give everything for this club - one of the biggest clubs in the world - and I will try to follow him.”

Ait-Nouri also admits he can’t wait to play Champions League football with City.

He says that playing international football for Algeria, who he elected to represent despite being born near Paris, has given him a different type of challenge.

He has won 17 caps since 2023 and says he is immensely proud to play for his country.

“They help me a lot, because it is a different challenge,” he stated.

“The national team give me a lot of things because as you know, the football is a bit different, but I am really proud to play with Algeria also.

“They push me every time and I receive a lot of messages on social media from Algerian fans and I'm proud to play for this shirt.”
