‘Agreement sealed’: United dealt double blow by Romano as £65m deal now looks highly unlikely to materialise

This week, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have had to watch on whilst their suitors finalise deals for alternative targets.

Both players have concluded their respective loan spells with Aston Villa and Chelsea and now face hugely uncertain futures; Manchester United are looking to offload them permanently, but that can only happen if offers actually arrive.

Rashford bid farewell to the Villa Park faithful upon the culmination of 2024/2025 after being ruled out of the side’s final four fixtures of the campaign. There was a £40 million buy option included in his loan terms, though he would’ve also had to green-light the deal.

It’s thought United will demand the same fee for any club that establishes their interest in a move for the forward this summer. At the start of the window, Rashford’s agent met with Barcelona chief Deco to hold talks in Spain — four months after the La Liga champions had considered signing him in the winter.

While they have strongly considered the 27-year-old Carrington graduate’s arrival, Barcelona prioritised targets Luis Diaz and Nico Williams. They had an offer rebuffed by Liverpool for the former and have today reached a full agreement to sign the latter from Athletic Club.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on X/Twitter that the ‘agreement [is] sealed’ between Barcelona and Williams, with club-to-club discussions now ongoing to hash out the financial terms. As a result, Rashford will likely have to kiss goodbye his dreams of a Camp Nou switch.

A similar case is also taking place with Sancho and Napoli. The Scudetto winners emerged as surprise contenders in pursuit of the winger after Chelsea paid a £5m penalty to bypass their £25m obligation-to-buy and send him back to Manchester.

Unwilling to match his costly wages, Napoli have turned their attention to Bologna’s Dan Ndoye, with ‘personal terms now almost agreed’, as per Romano.

The Naples outfit do retain their interest in the United outcast but, as things stand, he’s not atop their shortlist.
