Al-Hilal failed to sway Bruno Fernandes, but they’ll be looking to retaliate by signing a midfielder wanted at Manchester United.
The Arabian giants were desperate to sign the 30-year-old ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup campaign. They reportedly offered him a three-year deal for a combined salary of £200 million. They were also willing to satisfy the Red Devils with a transfer of £100 million.
However, Al-Hilal’s plans were left in tatters, as the Portugal international decided to turn down the offer after several days of reflection.
Fernandes and his family weren’t convinced by the move to Saudi Arabia, preferring to stay in Manchester.
But while the majority of Man Utd fans were delighted by the decision, Al-Hilal is now keen to bounce back by luring Ederson, a midfielder who has been high on Jason Wilcox’s shortlist.
According to Football Italia journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Brazilian’s agent held talks with representatives of the Saudi Pro League club on Monday evening.
The 25-year-old is considered one of the most complete players in Serie A thanks his relentless running, technical prowess and ability to retain possession. Fabio Capello once hailed him as an ‘out of this world’ player.

Ederson has been an absolute stalwart for Atalanta since making the move from Salernitana in the summer of 2022. But with his mentor, Gian Piero Gasperini, leaving Bergamo in favour of joining Roma, this could be the right time for the player to leave the club.
The Campo Grande native attracted the interest of several top Premier League clubs, and chief among them are Man Utd who need additional muscle in the middle of the park.
But with Al-Hilal entering the fray and likely presenting Ederson and Atalanta with monumental offers, the Red Devils risk getting splashed out of the water.
