AS Monaco, following back-to-back defeats in Ligue 1, bounced back in the UEFA Champions League to continue their unbeaten run in the competition.
Not only that, the win means that, after four games, Monaco now have 10 points – that is a club-record total for the Principality club at this stage of the competition. Statisticians have estimated that 10 points will be sufficient for qualification for the play-off phase of the competition, which is assured for clubs that finish between ninth and 24th.
That was the stated goal heading into the competition, however, Adi Hutter isn’t saying that it is mission accomplished. “We are in a new format and we don’t know exactly how many points we need to qualify but we are happy to be high in the table,” said the Principality club’s manager. Both Thilo Kehrer and Wilfried Singo said that Monaco “won’t get carried away”.
“There are some big games coming up,” noted Hutter, in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News. With games against Benfica, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Inter Milan upcoming for Les Monégasques in the Champions League. But with qualification for the top 24 already likely achieved, they have given themselves the right to be ambitious.
