AC Milan to abandon deal for Victor Boniface | OneFootball

AC Milan are set to call off the loan deal for Victor Boniface following extensive medical examinations revealed concerns with his right knee, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Milan agreed a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen with a €5 million fee and an option to buy valued up to €30m, but the transfer has collapsed due to doubts over Boniface’s fitness.

Boniface underwent multiple rounds of medical tests at Milan’s Centro Ambrosiano and the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute.

The examinations showed that his right knee, which had been surgically repaired twice following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, is not currently at 100 percent capacity.

Despite his recent injury problems mostly being muscular, the lingering impact of the past ACL tears prompted Milan’s medical staff to exercise caution.

The conclusion from both the medical and technical staff was that signing an attacker with such a significant fitness question posed too much risk.

Boniface will return to Leverkusen, where he remains under contract until 2028.

Milan will now look elsewhere to reinforce their attacking options as they target signing two new forwards before the close of the summer transfer window.

Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder is a potential candidate. They have previously been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund and could now reignite their interest.

However, Serie A champions Napoli look to be in the driving seat to sign the Danish striker.

Milan suffered a 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Cremonese in their opening league fixture on Saturday and will look to bounce back against Leece on Friday.
