AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca isn’t too keen to praise city rivals Inter Milan for their Champions League draw with Man City in midweek.
Fonseca spoke in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s derby clash with Inter, via FCInterNews. He was tight-lipped as far as his team’s city rivals’ exploits in the week.
Inter and Milan had contrasting weeks in the leadup for tomorrow’s derby showdown.
Both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri began their Champions League campaigns. And both did so in matches against two of the biggest teams in the Premier League.
On Tuesday, Milan hosted Liverpool at the San Siro.
The Rossoneri got that match off to exactly the start they’d have wanted to. They scored within the first couple of minutes through Christian Pulisic.
But Milan quickly lost control of that match.
Liverpool found the back of the net three times to complete an emphatic comeback win. And if anything, their superiority would have warranted even more goals than that.
Inter also had a tough assignment up against a Premier League juggernaut in the form of Manchester City.
The Nerazzurri also had to contend with the fact that they were facing the Cityzens away.
But Inter went toe-to-toe with City, just as they had done in the Champions League final a couple of seasons ago.
The Nerazzurri held out for a point. It was a stalemate that did not exactly produce much excitement, but was undeniably played at a high technical and tactical level.
There is little doubt that Inter and Milan head into tomorrow’s derby in contrasting moods in view of their European results.
Rossoneri coach Fonseca was asked what he though of Inter’s draw with City.
Fonseca replied tersely, “Is this a question meant to make me praise Inter?”
“Well, I prefer not to,” the Milan coach didn’t take the bait.
