A surprise Real Madrid star could fill in for Dani Carvajal at right-back | OneFootball

An insight into the plans of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid to cover for the absence of sidelined defender Dani Carvajal has on Monday been provided.

This, of course, comes after the Spanish international was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Stretchered out of Real Madrid’s La Liga downing of Villarreal over the weekend, Carvajal was subsequently diagnosed with ‘a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, a ruptured external collateral ligament and a ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg’.

The obvious replacement in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is Lucas Vázquez, expected to play an increasingly prominent role in Spain’s capital over the months ahead.

What, though, when Vázquez requires a rest, or is himself struggling for fitness?

As per a report from Relevo, solutions for as much are already being sought by the coaching staff at Valdebebas.

Éder Militão is one stop-gap option, whilst a more surprising name pushed to slot in at right-back comes in the form of Federico Valverde.

Midfielder Valverde is of course considered an essential figure in the middle of the park at Real Madrid, but could, on occasion, find himself shifted into defence this season, owing to his ‘profile’ and ability in the tackle.
