A piece of English football history was made on Wednesday night.

It might not seem like the most momentous occasion, but it could usher in an entirely new dawn for football in Europe.

The EFL Cup semi-final between Tottenham and Liverpool might not have been the greatest game of the season so far but it was the first time a referee addressed his decision to a crowd.

Dominic Solanke's second half strike was ruled to be offside after a VAR consultation with referee Stuart Atwell revealing his decision to the supports in north London.
