One player who has been heavily linked with a potential move to Manchester City in the past, is Newcastle United midfield Bruno Guimaraes. It has seemed since last summer that the Brazilian international has forever been named as a City transfer target. But heading into this summer’s transfer window it appears that Bruno Guimaraes will be staying at Newcastle. In truth, he likely isn’t the type of player that Manchester City need to add to their midfield in the transfer window.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, Bruno Guimaraes revealed his admiration for Pep Guardiola. The Brazilian midfielder also told FourFourTwo of his intention to remain at Newcastle. Speaking with FourFourTwo he said: “I’m very much at home and living a dream. For me to leave, it must be something great for the club, not for me. I don’t worry about it. I trust the club and my agents. I’m so happy here and I want to stay.”
Speaking on Pep Guardiola, Guimaraes added: “I’ve spoken with him (Pep Guardiola), but nothing about a potential move. He has said some nice things about my game, and I am very humbled by that because he is the best coach I’ve ever seen. I admire how he has impacted football.”
Based on the recent comments from Bruno Guimaraes, we shouldn’t see him linked with a summer move to Manchester City. He appears determined to stay at Newcastle United, who appear to be on the verge of securing Champions League football for next season. But looking at Bruno Guimaraes as a player he doesn’t appear to be the type of player that Manchester City need this summer.
Pep Guardiola’s squad appears in desperate need of creativity in midfield. While Guimaraes has that in his kitbag so to speak, he is more of a traditional number eight as a player. Manchester City signed Nico from FC Porto during the January transfer window, so they appear to have that particular position covered. City appear to need a number ten, or an attacking midfielder. That isn’t what Guimaraes would bring to the Etihad. So ahead of this summer, the Newcastle United midfielder doesn’t appear to be a priority target for the world champions.
Bruno Guimaraes appears determined to remain at Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window. Based on his recent comments, and what Manchester City need this summer it appears that a City move for the Brazilian international is off the table.
