Only two players have left Turf Moor, but it looks as though they may have saved a considerable amount of money already.

Burnley have already started their preparations for next season by announcing their retained list.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell looks set to remain with the Clarets for another season after having his contract extension option triggered and it's no surprise that Josh Brownhill has also seen his deal extended by a further 12 months.

Mike Tresor and Maxime Esteve have joined permanently, meanwhile, whilst discussions are ongoing to secure permanent switches for Lorenz Assignon and Jacob Bruun Larsen.

With this in mind, as well as the fact they have some valuable players like former Leeds United loanee Connor Roberts and ex-Hull City loan man Anass Zaroury returning to Turf Moor, the Lancashire outfit are in a fairly strong position.

Contract offers have also been made to Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Taylor, with their experience in the dressing room likely to be important next season if they stay put.

Regardless of whether they stay or not, it seems clear that a major rebuild at Turf Moor this summer isn't necessary, which can only help to maintain stability.

Having plenty of talented players, the Lancashire outfit have a great chance of being involved in the promotion mix next term.

Two players were confirmed to be leaving the Clarets this summer and FLW has taken a look at what that is estimated to save them on wages...

Jack Cork

Jack Cork has proved to be a good signing from Swansea City, spending a long time at Turf Moor and registering 267 appearances during his time there – scoring 11 goals and registering 12 assists in the process.

His work in midfield has been the most vital thing for the Clarets though, playing a big part in their promotion back to the Premier League during the 2022/23 campaign.

Unfortunately, he was limited to just six competitive appearances last term, with two of those displays coming in the EFL Cup.

And all four of his league appearances came from the bench, with Cork often spending time out of the matchday squad altogether.

However, he was included in 22 league matchday squads during 2023/24 and with this in mind, it wouldn't have been a shock to see his contract extended by a further year but the Clarets have taken the decision to let him go.

According to an estimate from Capology, he was on £45,000 per week last season and if that figure is anywhere near accurate, his departure is probably the right thing for Burnley.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson

Gudmundsson was a key figure during the 2022/23 season, making 44 appearances in all competitions and proving to be a real attacking asset in place of others who were unable to shine, notably Darko Churlinov.

And in fairness to the Icelandic winger, he was able to make 26 appearances in the top flight last term, scoring once and recording three assists.

Although some of those appearances came from the bench, the fact he was able to secure a decent amount of game time may have given him hope that he would earn a new contract at Turf Moor.

But he's 33 now - and it seems as though the Clarets are keen to focus on the future. That means the winger leaves with 227 appearances, 14 goals and 30 assists to his name.

His wage may have also played a part in the decision to release him, with Capology estimating that he earned £35,000 per week during the 2023/24 campaign.
