FC Barcelona have been working very diligently on reinforcing their team for the upcoming 2025-26 season, and have a very clear idea of the positions they want to strengthen in the current squad.
In this regard, they have already signed the RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia after paying his €25 million release clause. Meanwhile, they are also working to strengthen their attack, and for this purpose, are closely linked with the Athletic Club forward Nico Williams.
In fact, the latest reports in this regard claim that the Blaugranes have already reached a personal agreement with the winger, and now they are negotiating payment terms with the Basque club.
The player himself is very keen to play for the Catalan club, but there were some other big European clubs also interested in signing him.
One such club was Bayern Munich, which, according to the journalist Florian Plettenburg, made a new approach to convince the Spaniard to join their ranks in the last 48 hours. However, the forward has given them a final rejection, as he is determined to join Barcelona.
Having already reached a personal agreement with Nico, the Blaugranes now have to take care of getting him released from Athletic Club. For this purpose, they are in negotiations with the Basque club.
Athletic have already made it clear that they will not allow their €70 million-rated winger to leave for anything less than his €58 million release clause.
Thus, the Catalans would have to pay his entire release clause even if they successfully negotiate with the Basques, but this can allow them to save some money in taxes and can also get them to agree to instalments for their payment.
For now, Joan Laporta and Barcelona are quite optimistic about the success of this operation, and it looks quite likely that Nico Williams will finally join them this year.
