On 26 June 1955, Real Madrid clinched their first Latin Cup with a 2-0 win over Stade de Reims. This year's tournament took place at the Parc des Princes in Paris and the hero of the final was Héctor Rial, who struck both goals in the match. A year later, the Whites would go on to defeat the French side at the same venue in the first European Cup final.
Before picking up that 1955 Latin Cup, the madridistas faced Os Belenenses in a semi-final match in Paris. Zárraga and Pérez-Payá scored the goals to seal a 2-0 victory. In the other semi-final, Stade de Reims beat Milan 3-2. Real Madrid thereby added their name to the list of winners of the Latin Cup, a competition they would return to win in 1957.
