Since FC Barcelona have returned to the 1:1 status, the Catalan club has been increasingly linked with transfer market activity, with speculation rising about both outgoing and incoming transfers.
In fact, the Blaugranes are now expected to even sell some of their current players in January to be able to bring some reinforcements for the weaker areas in Hansi Flick’s team, particularly the fullback and left-wing positions.
In such a context, one of the players whose future has been subject to a lot of speculation has been the defender Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan returned to the pitch after recovering from a long-term hamstring injury in the game against UD Barbastro.
However, in his absence, Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez have established themselves as the starting center-backs for Hansi Flick, and it remains to be seen what his role in the squad will be as the season continues to unfold.
Similarly, his contract renewal negotiations with Barcelona are also not going too smoothly, and the defender himself did not help matters by admitting that there has not been an agreement between him and the Catalan club after the game against Barbastro.
In these circumstances, reports recently emerged claiming that he has given the nod to a potential move to the Italian side Juventus. The Old Lady is looking to add Araújo to their team with a paid loan with a mandatory purchase clause, after seeing two of their defender, Cabal and Bremer, suffer serious injuries.
However, according to SPORT, Araújo’s entourage has categorically denied any such green light given by the defender to the Italian club. They claim that the defender has not committed to Juventus, and are satisfied with the 90 minutes that Araujo played against UD Barbastro after recovering from such a long injury.
Furthermore, his entourage has also noted that he has a contract with Barcelona till 2026 and that Juventus will have to negotiate with the Blaugranes before finalizing an agreement with the €55m-rated Uruguayan defender.
For now, Araújo is looking to get back to his best shape, and help his team for the rest of the season. However, he will reassess his position in the team and make a decision about his future in the summer.
