Motherwell’s Lennon Miller appears set to seal a move to Udinese. The 18-year-old has been a standout at Fir Park but is in the final year of his contract, meaning the ‘Well have been forced to make a decision on his future this summer.
Celtic were the reportedly keen on signing Miller in the January transfer window with a bid rebuffed. However, despite retaining an interest, Celtic have not followed up on their interest and now look set to miss out on the midfielder.
As per Sky Sports, Miller is on his way to complete a medical before completing a deal to sign with the Serie A club for a fee believed to be in the region of £4.5m.
It is understandable why Celtic have opted not to revisit their interest in Miller given the strength and depth enjoyed in the midfield. This depth has been compounded by Paulo Bernardo not featuring off the bench in the opening two fixtures. Benji Nygren was added as a ‘No.8’, which limits opportunities further for Luke McCowan, Arne Engels and Bernardo. There was likely no room to add Miller and that would hardly have been an attractive prospect to Miller and his representatives, especially if they have consideration to the last player that broke Motherwell’s transfer record – David Turnbull.

Celtic have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks to strengthen the squad, especially in attack. Luis Palma and Nicolas Kühn have departed leaving Celtic light in the wide areas. Marco Tilio is expected to depart.
Celtic have added Kieran Tierney and Nygren to their ranks this summer, two players that improve the first team. J-League duo Hayato Inamura and Shin Yamada have been signed but rather than being first team options, they’ve been brought in to be assessed and evaluated rather than being treated as first team ready players. Callum Osmand has been brought in by Fulham but his status appears to be that of a development player. Meanwhile, Ross Doohan has replaced Scott Bain as the third goalie behind Kasper Schmeichel and Vil Sinisalo.
There is significant pressure on the club to get transfers over the line given the supporters’ frustration aligning with the thoughts of the manager. Brendan has spoken about the club being braver in the window and bringing in genuine quality to improve the team.
