4-2 win in Kiel

Gambar artikel:4-2 win in Kiel

Omar Marmoush scored two and assisted two more as Eintracht Frankfurt deservedly beat Holstein Kiel on Sunday. Igor Matanovic and Tuta were also on target for the Eagles.

Shuto Machino twice pegged Eintracht back after Marmoush and Matanovic had put the visitors ahead, but the Egyptian forward struck again to make it 3-2 20 minutes into the second half. Tuta completed the scoring nine minutes later to earn Dino Toppmöller’s side a deserved victory and lift them up to second in the Bundesliga table.

Ekitiké sidelined

The Eagles made five changes from Thursday’s draw with Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League. Aurèle Amenda was handed his first start for the club, Robin Koch was back in the side after shaking off a hip injury, and Farès Chaibi, Junior Dina Ebimbe and Hugo Larsson were all restored to the starting XI. Hugo Ekitiké was unavailable after picking up a knock against the Czech side, but Mario Götze was back on the bench after recovering from illness.

Marmoush continues purple patch

Eintracht fashioned a number of good opportunities in the early stages of the first half. Dina Ebimbe had a shot blocked by Carl Johansson after being forced wide by the Kiel defender, before Marmoush was denied by goalkeeper Timon Weiner in a one-on-one. The Egyptian went close again moments later, his powerful shot deflected over the crossbar by Finn Porath.

It was third time lucky for Marmoush, who beat Weiner at his near post to give the visitors a deserved 25th-minute lead. However, Machino equalised for Kiel from the penalty spot after Koch had fouled Lewis Holtby, and the Japanese international capitalised on a misplaced Kauã Santos pass to find the net for a second time six minutes later – but referee Tobias Stieler spotted a foul on Tuta in the build-up and the goal was chalked off.

Weiner thwarted Marmoush twice in quick succession on the stroke of half-time – including a superb one-handed stop – as the teams went into the break on level terms.

Tuta adds gloss

Matanovic – who was making his first Bundesliga start for the club – opened his top-flight account just two minutes into the second half, sending a free header into the net from Marmoush’s corner. Kiel responded quickly yet again, though, Machino firing home from the edge of the area after the visitors had failed to clear a corner.

Eintracht – and Marmoush – were not to be denied, however. The Eagles’ No7 struck his sixth league goal of the campaign midway through the second half after a misunderstanding between Weiner and Nicolai Remberg, before turning provider once more to tee up Tuta for the visitors’ fourth of the afternoon.

It was a memorable afternoon for Eintracht’s in-form Egyptian, who is the first Eagles player to score six goals in the opening five games of a Bundesliga season. The victory moves Toppmöller’s side to within a point of leaders Bayern Munich, who travel to Deutsche Bank Park next weekend.
