It is no secret that one of the top priorities of FC Barcelona for the upcoming summer transfer window is the singing of a top-class midfielder. The pivot position has been an area of clear weakness for the Catalan team, and they would be looking to go into the next season with a player who specializes in this role.

There have been several names linked with the Blaugranes for this role, including the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Mikel Merino, and Amadou Onana, over the last few months.

Meanwhile, new names are also regularly linked with Barcelona, and according to SPORT, another midfielder who has offered himself to the Blaugranes is the Frenchman, Adrien Rabiot.

The former PSG midfielder is running out of his contract with Juventus, and as there has not been a renewal yet, his mother, and agent, has contacted Barcelona to test the waters for a potential move.

However, this is not the first time that Rabiot’s name has been discussed in the Catalan club’s offices, and he is not a priority of the Sporting Department led by Deco, who prefers a midfielder who can shine as a single pivot.

There is not much debate about his quality, as he has had a good season with Juventus, and is also shining with France in the UEFA EURO 2024, but Barcelona are simply not looking for a player of his profile.

While a potential free move can entice the Catalans, he would still demand very high wages, up to €8 million net per year, which the club cannot offer at the moment.

Previously, Rabiot was on the cusp of signing for Barcelona in 2019, but ended up joining Juventus, especially as the tax laws in Italy allowed him to pocket quite a high amount in wages. Although he has been a starter in recent months, his overall career at Juventus has been quite inconsistent.

Although a move to FC Barcelona is unlikely, Rabiot still has several options open as Juventus are still trying to renew him, while he has also been offered to Athletico Madrid and several teams in the Premier League.
